Dr. Zandile Mahlangu was born and brought up in Bethal, in Mpumalanga Province, as the youngest of five siblings – four sisters and one brother. She attended school in Bethal until primary education level, thereafter proceeded to a boarding school in Pretoria, Soshanguve where she completed Matric.

She obtained her Medical degree in 1994 at the University of Cape Town.

Dr.Mahlangu employment history started in 1995 at Livingstone Hospital in Port Elizabeth where she spent a year as a Medical Intern. Then it was back to her birth Province, Mpumalanga where she spent seven years at Witbank Hospital as a Medical Officer, Senior Superintendent and an Acting Chief Executive Officer. In 2002 she was appointed to head the Bitou Local Municipality’s Department of Community Services.
