Project Description:
The project entails collecting data by means of a questionnaire which covers amongst others employment statistics (both permanent and temporary), demographics, facilities and activities on farms, social awareness and basic subsistence facilities on farms (housing, water, sanitation and waste management), on all farms in the jurisdictional area of the Cape Winelands District Municipality.
Lay health workers and health committee members are collecting the data on farms, trained and supervised by Environmental Health Practitioners (EHP’s) of the Cape Winelands District Municipality.
Data will be verified and certified through an independent audit at which point data will be analysed.
Aims of the Project:Â
- To determine the availability and standard of basic subsistence facilities on farms.
- Areas of greatest need and backlogs could be identified at a farm level.
- To guide councils and administrations in the Cape Winelands region in terms of strategic planning, project identification and budgeting
- To have a basis for dialogue with the organised Agricultural sector and farm workers.
- The findings of the survey would support applications to provincial and national funding mechanisms such as the Municipal Infrastructure Grant and the Human Settlements programme.
