Overview

Internal Auditing is an independent, objective assurance and consulting activity designed to add value and improve CWDM operations.  It helps accomplish its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control and governance processes.

Activities

According to the MFMA (refers s165) each municipality must have an internal audit unit.

The strategic objectives of this function are to:

• prepare a risk-based audit plan and an internal audit program for each financial year.
• advise the accounting officer and report to the audit committee on the implementation of the internal audit plan, matters relating to internal audit, internal controls, accounting procedures and practice, risk and risk management, performance management, loss control and legislative compliance (including the MFMA and the annual Division Act (DORA).
