
The Speaker, Cllr C Meyer, kick started this year, with her usual humanitarian efforts that is to help the needy, and to give a positive contribution to our communities.
The Speaker was invited to address new and returning pupils at Lukhanyo Community Care Centre in Mbekweni on Tuesday 15 January 2013. She was invited by Monte Christo Miqla’t (MCM), a nongovernmental organization (NGO) which seeks to address many social ills that continue to impale our societies.
MCM hosted a “Back to School Campaign” whose primary objective is to remind parents that the holidayis over; it is time to shift their focus back to school.
According to a statement released by MCM, “This campaign also makes sure that the pupils of Mbekweni community are all going back to school and to install in them the idea of schooling, to reduce the high rate of drop outs and kids wandering around during school hours.”
The Speaker, together with the Cape Winelands District Municipality’s Deputy Executive Mayor, Cllr HM Jansen donated about 100 stationary bags to the pupils who attended this event.
