​Following consultation and much soul-searching, the Cape Winelands District Municipality has settled for “TOURISM & SUSTAINABLE ENERGY: POWER SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT”, as its theme for the 2012 tourism month activities.

The third presentation of the fast-growing 27 For Freedom Run on 11 February 2012, coincided with the anniversary of the release of former President Nelson Mandela from almost 27 years of incarceration. The race, first launched in 2010, is a partnership between the Cape Winelands District Municipality (CWDM), Drakenstein Municipality, Drakenstein Correctional Service Centre (DCSC) and Cape Town Routes Unlimited (CTRU). It was established to commemorate the release of South Africa’s most famous political icon, fondly known as Madiba, from the then Victor Verster Prison.

The Lusern Cricket Project, which was launched last year in partnership with the South African Police Services (SAPS) by the Cape Winelands Department of Rural and Social Development to promote cricket among the rural pupils of the Cape Winelands community, has received further portable cricket sets from the department.​

During the Cape Winelands District Municipality’s ‘Meet the Mayor’ Campaign, which was held on Friday, 22 October 2010 in Paarl, a request was made to the Mayor by the Simondium Health and Development Committee to grant approval for the utilisation of the Simondium Clinic, which has been standing empty for many years, to render the community services that they offer.
