FORMAL TRAINING MODULES:

The Municipal Health Services believe in empowering the community and business sector by conduct education free of charge.  The following formal training modules are available on request.

“The Standards & Requirements for Formal Food Premises”

Target group: To educate potential Business Owners regarding the requirements stated in Sections 5 & 6 of Regulation 638

Content: Statutory Requirements before opening a Food Premises like:

  • Zoning, Approved Building Plan, Business License, Certificate of Acceptability (CoA).
  • Structural Standards & Requirements relating to Food Premises

“The Duties of the Food Handler”

Target group: A training module for all food handlers and to help the business owner to comply with Section 11 of Regulation 638 which states “any person working in the food premises must be adequately trained in food hygiene by an inspector or any other suitable person”

“Cleaning and Disinfection of Food Premises”

Target group: A training module educating the food industry in proper cleaning and disinfecting of a food premises (food handlers as well as supervisors)

“Transport, Delivery, Storage and Display of Food”

Target group: A training module for food handlers and supervisors in legal requirements pertaining to transport, delivery, storage and display of food

“Standard & Requirements for Informal food preparation”

Target group: A training module for food vendors preparing food from informal food stalls and events

  • Statutory Requirements before preparing food on the street like: Certificate of Acceptability (CoA), a Business or Informal Trading License, Informal Trading Permit
  • Health Requirements relating to Informal Food Preparation
  • General Microbiology & Food Poisoning

“Standards and Requirements for Spaza shops”

Target group: A training module for food handlers operating a house or spaza shop.

Content:

  • Statutory Requirements before opening a House / Spaza Shop like: Application / Approval for Zoning Land Use, The Structure of the Property, Certificate of Acceptability (CoA):
  • Health Requirements relating to a House / Spaza Shop
  • General Hygiene Requirements: Do’s and Don’ts

“Hygiene Requirements relating to Wine Cellars”

Target group:  Educate Wine Cellar Owners & Workers
