Occupational Health & Safety

Occupational Health & Safety Overview

The Cape Winelands District Municipality seeks to achieve the highest levels of health and safety in the workplace through a range of strategies. Health and Safety is everyone’s responsibility in the workplace. Employees must take care of their own health and safety, as well as that of other persons who may be affected by their actions or negligence to act.

The Occupational Health and Safety Act, 1993 (Act No. 85 of 1993) determines that an employer must inform employees about the hazards or potential hazards that they may encounter and what precautionary measures they must take to protect themselves. The key strategy is encouraging managers and employees to work together.

Our main aim is to:
  • Identify hazards in the workplace and determine the risk associated with them.
  • Design the facility and management program to reduce risks associated with the hazards, and most importantly.
  • Communicate hazards identification, risk assessment, and appropriate safety measures to all employees.
