Cape Winelands welcomes Heal Our Children Marathon walkers

Four dedicated walkers have embarked on a journey of more than 2 200 km in the Heal our Children Marathon. The aim is to raise funds for and spread awareness of the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital. The maraton commenced in Richard’s Bay and will end in Cape Town.

Malcolm Johnson (65), founder of the initiative, Franklin Peceur (50), Rudolph Williams (66) and Brian Daniels (52) are walking through five provinces and approximately 36 towns and cities. Three of the men reside in Stellenbosch – Johnson is from Pniel, and Peceur and Williams are from Kylemore.

On 14 June 2023, after they completed their walk in Stellenbosch, Cllr Minnie Petersen of the CWDM received the walkers, offering refreshments and taking the opportunity to thank them for embarking on this initiative and for literally going the extra mile.

A monetary contribution was made on behalf of CWDM Councillors and employees. All monies raised will be donated towards the building of a dedicated Orthopaedic Unit at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital.

Previous Maintenance and repair to rural and gravel roads continue
